Healthy teeth and gums

Kids can’t be reminded too often how important it is to care for their teeth:

  • Brush at least twice a day
  • Use a fluoride based toothpaste
  • Clean between your teeth using dental floss to remove plaque and food deposits
  • Use a fluoride based mouthwash to help re-mineralise tooth enamel and kill plaque forming bacteria
  • Visit your dentist and dental hygienist regularly
  • When consuming acidic or sweetened drinks such as orange juice, do so with meals rather than in between meals. Avoid brushing your teeth for 20 minutes after eating or drinking acidic food or drink
  • Limit sugary drinks and consume them through a straw
  • Eat a balanced diet, rich in cereals, beans, pulses, fruits, vegetables, lean meat/fish and low fat dairy products
