How Aussie is Kellogg’s?
Fun fact - did you know that Kellogg’s products have been making Australian life tastier for almost a century?
In 1924, a bloke named Morris Raymer was tasked with travelling to Australia to set up a corn flake machine in a rented building in the Sydney suburb of Chippendale (well before it was trendy, by the way). Fortunately, this plucky chap was a specialist in automatic packaging machinery, so the machine worked a treat, churning out our signature, golden Corn Flakes® for the first time ever on Australian soil.
It would probably come as no surprise to you, if we told you that Aussies went crazy for them! In fact, you snapped them up so fast that we had to build a new plant in Botany just a few years later. While we may have made a cheeky expansion or two over the years, we’re still making our original Corn Flakes at the same location to this day.
Over this time, we’ve become an integral part of the Australian way of life, whether through the development of Aussie original cereals like Just Right®, Sustain® and Nutri-Grain ®, or sourcing the vast majority of our ingredients from our local farmers.
We rely on the world-class produce of these legends to ensure Aussies enjoy the most delicious and best quality cereal possible – over 94 per cent of our cereals are produced with 70 per cent Aussie ingredients.
Like all Australians, we have a passion for supporting our sporting heroes, which inspired us to develop Just Right® in the ‘80s specifically for health conscious, athletic Aussies. Similarly, we made Sustain® in partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport, and Nutri-Grain® has long been a supporter of Australia’s Ironman and Ironwoman series – what could be more iconically Aussie than running out of the surf and scoffing down a big bowl of Nutri-Grain®. Making it even more unique, Nutri-Grain® cereal is only sold on Aussie and Kiwi soil!
Since we opened that Botany factory in 1928, we’ve produced over four billion kilograms of cereal. That’s a lot of satisfied Aussies getting the delicious wholesomeness of grains to start to the day. We’re proud to have played this role in the Australian story and we look forward to producing four billion more.
