INSPIRING A LOVE OF SOIL THROUGH ART

On International Biodiversity Day 2025, Kellogg’s ANZ unveiled new research highlighting a significant gap in Australians' understanding of soil health. The findings reveal that nearly 40% of Australians are unaware of the importance of good soil health for biodiversity, crop resilience, and food supply protection. Despite over 90% recognising the impact of soil health on food supply, a third admitted to knowing very little about its importance.

To address this, Kellogg's ANZ, in collaboration with the Cool Soil Initiative, partnered with Claus Stangl, the 2022 Archibald Packing Room Prize-winning artist, to create four unique artworks featuring soil critters that are essential for soil health, using Australian soil. These artworks aim to bring the hidden world of soil critters to life, making soil science more accessible and engaging, while raising awareness about the important work of the Cool Soil Initiative in supporting farmers to improve soil health and crop resilience.

Dr. Cassandra Schefe, Principal Scientist of the Cool Soil Initiative, shared that investments from partners like Kellogg’s are crucial for farmers to innovate and create healthy soil, which in turn helps produce healthy crops.

The new art collection will be donated to Soil Science Australia, further promoting the importance of soil health and its role in sustainable agriculture.
